Nxamaseri Lodge Okavango Delta |
Nxamaseri is a 12 bedded
brick and thatch water camp situated on a heavily wooded island in the
Panhandle region of the Okavango Delta. Wooden boardwalks lead out from the
main dining / bar / sitting room complex to six individual chalet units, with
en-suite shower and flush toilet facilities. Each chalet has its own private
deck overlooking the water and surrounding floodplains. Access to the boats
and mekoros is from a wooden jetty out front. Nxamaseri is one of Southern
Africa's premier fly-fishing and birding destinations. Because it is situated
amongst permanent water, the lodge is not a game destination. Hippo is seen
regularly and the largest crocodiles found in the Okavango are to be seen in
the Panhandle. There is also always the chance of spotting the rare and
elusive Sitatunga antelope. Fishing with either lure or fly is for tiger fish,
pike, catfish and a number of bream species. The region offers excellent
birding, particularly for the water bird species. The specials include Pels
Fishing Owl, African Skimmer, white-backed night heron, slaty egret and
wattled crane.
Activities: All fishing is done from motorised boats in the main
channels and lagoons. Birding is also done from motorised boats as well as
from mekoro's and on island walks. Nxamaseri is also the closest lodge to
Tsodilo Hills, which boasts a rich collection of over 3000 San rock paintings.
Being in a community area, there is also the opportunity to spend time in
rural villages and to witness the local folk going about their traditional
lifestyles.
