The Vogelstrausskluft offers a variety of interesting, unique possibilities to explore the desert, the Fish River Canyon and Namibia's south. E.g. the possibility to descend down into the Canyon rather easily, which is only possible in one other place – the nature reserve at Ai-Ais – where a permit is required.

Nature- & Game drives
Daily in the morning and evening hours we offer guided Gamedrives over the Plateau to the top of the Canyon Rim. Kudu, Oryx, Springboks, Ostriches and various other animals and plants can be spotted most of the times – and with luck even Shakals or Rooikat (Caracals). Arriving at the view point you will experience a spectacular 360° view. On most days you will see more than 250km: Over the breathtaking Fish River Canyon to the Klein Karasberge on the one side – over the Plateau up to the mountain range that marks the border to the Namib Desert on the other.
Duration: approx. 2 Hours, daily at 9:00 and 16:30 (max. 30 persons)

Helicopter Flights
View the Africa's largest Canyon from a breathtaking perspective: Helicopter flights over the rarely known upper part, or even the whole course of the canyon down to its deepest point in the nature reserve are a unique experience. The helicopter-flight directly starts and ends at the Vogelstrausskluft helipad.
30 minutes flight: Flight over upper canyon and the Canyon Rim.
45 minutes flight: Flight over upper canyon including touchdown at the Canyon Rim.
Longer flights or specials tours are possible on request. This offer can be booked as well, if you are not guest at Vogelstrausskluft Lodge. Pick-up from other lodges in the canyon vicinity is possible (actual flight time includes warm-up, start-up and return ferry to/from other lodges or other destinations).
Duration: 30 or 45 minutes
(Please note: A minimum of 5 passengers is required, otherwise the full helicopter rate is divided by the no. of passengers. If you are less than 5 passengers and only interested in a flight if the helicopter can be filled up with other passengers, please mention with your reservation.)

»Fish-River-Canyon Experience«
This full day excursion with a 4x4-vehicle takes you to the rough landscape of the Canyon Plains and down into the Fish River Canyon.

* Transfer to the access of the Canyon Plains
* Nature-Drive through the Canyon Plains alongside the escarpment of the Canyon; visit of several view points (incl. "Finger Klip")
* 300m descend with the 4x4-vehicle into the Fish River Canyon
* Bush-lunch at the banks of the Fish River
* Drive back and transfer to Vogelstrausskluft

Guided Hikes
Desert life happens in small scales and therefore you have to look closer. Before and after the big heat of the day, when life awakens and the light paints the most beautiful colours, we therefore offer guided hikes into the vicinity of the Lodge, into the Old Valley or the edge of the Plateau.
